Our little man has arrived and yes he is PERFECT! Eeee we just love him so much.
The morning before he was born I woke up with a contraction and I thought it was a little odd, but I didn't think anything of it. Throughout the day I had a lot of random contractions which I passed off as braxton hicks. With Brooklyn my water broke hours before my contractions stared so I knew it was the real deal, this time I wasn`t sure.
I took Brooklyn to strong start, ran errands, made dinner, and got ready for bed. Ryan left for work around 11pm and at 1:00 in the morning I started timing my contractions and I knew our baby was coming. I called Ryan at 3:00 to tell him to come home and surprisingly he was home by 3:30 :). We waited for my contractions to get a little closer and then we called the midwife around 5:00 (my contractions were consistently 5min and then 3min, 5min then 3min) , after answering what felt like 100 questions she said she would get ready and then come and check me. Ryan dropped Brooklyn off at his sisters and then came back home.
In the mean time the midwife called back and said she would rather meet me at the hospital since I had a short (6 hr) labor with Brooklyn. I readily agreed my contractions had become more intense. Ryan and I set off for the hospital ,which was another new experience for me, last time I was in an ambulance, and I felt like I was in a movie getting upset as Ryan made a wrong turn.
We made it to the hospital and I had another first, having to go through the ER. The lady handed me a cup and told me to pee in it and then meet my midwife in the exam room. I remember I was really upset and thinking why in the world do I need to do this, I am having a BABY! I semi waddled to the bathroom and after no success gave up and met with the midwife. She continued to ask more questions, but I really just wanted her to check me, I knew I was ready. She finally did and was surprised I was already fully dilated. I thought to myself I know, now lets go.
I was set up in my room around 7:00 and I had no urge to push so I didn`t. I just kind of relaxed and breathed through my contractions, I was already so tired from the lack of sleep. After a little while my midwife told me that I should get up and try to pee because it had been a long time and an empty bladder would make it easier. I got up and went to the bathroom and I couldn`t pee, but I swore the baby was going to come out in the toilet!
She had me quickly come back and then she broke my water and things began to speed up. I ended up having him on my side which was a really weird feeling. It hurt a lot and at one point I wondered what it would have felt like if I would have had drugs. But oh well I still don`t know. He finally started to come out and I remember thinking holy cow isn`t he out yet! He is a pretty average size, but he was a pond and a half heavier and 3 inches longer than Brooklyn was. Overall it went well and pretty smooth, I liked our midwife and our nurse and the nurse in training were also amazing. I am just so glad he is out and here safe and sound! I think he is just so handsome!
My mother-in-law Laurie came over from the island to help out and she was able to come visit us at the hospital. And Ryan also went and picked up Brooklyn so she could meet her new little brother. We were in the hospital for just over 12 hours and then we got to bring our new little love home.
